Test update

For those whose registration expires on Dec. 30th, I am sorry to report that no evaluations are scheduled by me or the evaluators that I know until after the first of the year. It is possible to get an extension from Delta.

Today I tested 8 awesome dogs at the Rain Forest Learning Center in the South Loop. Each one of them have a special gift that they will bring to patients, children and the others they visit.

great course

I had a fun time teaching the Pet Partner handlers' course today at Westlake Hospital. It was an amazing group of students. We all had a great time.

Next event Nov. 15th evaluation in the South Loop. All filled up for that.

Handlers' Course

Sat. Oct 24th, I am teaching the Pet Partner's Handlers' Course in Melrose. I have had an amazing response. I think I have 12 students this time.

I tested four dream teams of therapy dogs on Sunday in Michigan. They come from a group in Indiana called Jus Pet Em. The best thing about this group is that they don't send anyone to test unless they are prepared.

It was great to test a very enthusiastic teenager. We need more teams like that.

Liberty and I had some great visits with patients at Westlake and Oak Park Hospitals today. Plus a new handler observed and Sarah and Lucy were there too. Wonderful day!!!!!!

News from a PAWS member

One of our long distance members, Kelly Elvin, was quoted in USA today on the benefits ( and a couple of small disadvantages) of changing careers. In her case, she went from attorney to dog trainer.

Now Kelly is reaping the rewards of freedom, satifaction and pride while working with dogs and their human, helping them to really become a person's best (behaved) friend.

My own dog Liberty passed her Delta recertification test last week with a Complex rating. Whew.

More great dogs

Yesterday I tested three great new teams from Jus Pet Um from Indiana. They came to my place in Michigan for their evaluations. Great people. Great dogs. Good Luck everyone!

Summer Party

It was a small event, but our summer party in Glen Ellyn on Saturday was lovely. The food was great. The garden was lovely. We had a good time and some new friends were made. Thanks Mary for your hospitality.

Paws 4 Patients has lots of fun activities for members. Next week is our summer party.

4th of July

What a fun morning we had on the 4th. Paws 4 Patients marched and rode in the annual 4th of July parade in Oak Park.

We had a pickup truck with three dogs and two handlers and three dogs marching. When the people saw the sign for therapy dogs, they all applauded.

It was great fun. Thanks to the members who came and walked, rode and drove and of course to the stars of the show, the therapy dogs.

On Saturday, I tested five wonderful dogs from Indiana, up in St. Joseph Michigan. The star was a St. Bernard named Drew.

Then I went up to South Haven and had a great time visiting and dog watching at the Al-Van fundraiser, Paws on the Pier. It was a perfect day.

Today, I tested several wonderful dogs, including one team that will be a part of PAWS 4 PATIENTS. My helpers were just great. Thanks everyone.

Each dog and handler brought some special personality to the test. They were all great and everyone did their best.

back to work

Today, Liberty and I went back to work visiting patients for the first time in three months. It was wonderful to be back. We had several awesome visits. One little lady in particular was just a joy to be with.

When we left each PT gym, everyone had smiles on their faces.

On Sunday, I tested seven awesome dogs of all sizes. They and their handlers all qualified to become Pet Partners. The test was held at a wonderful site in the South Loop of Chicago, called the Rainforest Learning Center.

Dog's life

Liberty had a ball in Michigan watching bunnies and chipmunks, looking at the lake and taking in the pure Michigan air.

Fun Summer Event

If any of you are in Michigan on June 27th, come to Paws on the Pier in South Haven. Lots of fun for people and their pets. Proceeds go to the Al Van Humane Society.

Fourth of July

Fourth of July Parade in Oak Park. Come and see the therapy dogs in the annual parade. We will be joined by the Doggie Drill Team of the Fine Canine from Elmhurst.

June renewals

Anyone needing to renew their Delta certification before June 20th, should contact me ASAP. An evalution will be held in Oak Park on Friday, June 19th at 1 P.M.
